The Story of Rio Bravo

Rio somehow found himself in a kill shelter in Georgia a few yrs ago. Our VP, Karen Dirksen pulled him off death row and he then was transported to a foster home....and then another foster home...and then another. Rio was quite a handful.
He had absolutely no manners and was a true wild child. He wore out his welcome in his foster homes quite quickly.

He ended up being adopted by a couple in Houston, Dell and Denise Bryant.
They worked with Rio and gave him the love, stability and training that he needed and it wasn't long before Rio became a certified therapy dog.

Here is an article about Rio from a recent Houston area newsletter.

Way to go Rio! He is living proof of what a little patience and training can do for a dog!

Rio Bravo, age 4 1⁄2
Anatolian Mastiff

Neighborhood Tails

I’m Rio Bravo. I live with my human parents, their foster dog, Chata, and Mr.
Kitty. I was a shelter dog in Georgia, and some nice person from the National Anatolian Shepherd Rescue Network rescued me, and I found my way to Houston and into the hearts of my human parents.

I was a little rowdy, but after some obedience school, someone from Faithful Paws decided I would be a great therapy dog for adults and children at hospitals and nursing homes, and would bring joy and help to special-needs children.

So,off I go to make my weekly visits – smelling good, mindingmy manners, dressing up in different outfits and making everyone happy with tons of love and doggie kisses.

If I see you at the Tanglewood Bark Park or anywhere else, I will give you my special “hello” and “high five.” What a life!

PHOENIX PET EXPO!!

Our group will be attending this event at the University of Phoenix Stadium (indoors!) on Saturday June 12th.

Since we are a national group, our dogs are scattered all across the country and we do not always have many in the particular area when there is an event like this.

If you live close enough to Phoenix to attend and if you have an Anatolian or ASD mix that is able to handle being around other dogs and people in a public setting like this, PLEASE try to attend!
We really need to have Anatolians at our booth so people can meet them up close and personal.
Seeing these dogs in person will generate more interest for the dogs on the website that are out of the local area but still within transport distance.

For more information, please email Carleen at

COVINGTON GEORGIA: "URGENT FOSTER OR ADOPTION NEEDED ASAP"

***THESE BOYS ARE STILL IN NEED OF FOSTERS OR ADOPTIONS***

We are desperately seeking foster or adoptive homes for these two boys!!
Both are very nice, friendly, easy going dogs! They will make good family companions or would also be good on a small family farm with horses or cattle.

Can anyone help them?? We will help with transport within appx 1,000 miles!

Tony and Moose are both 4 yo neutered pure bred male Anatolian Shepherd Dogs. Their owner is going to take them to the local kill shelter if we are not able to find foster or adoptive homes for them.

She purhased them to live with her goats but they both play too rough with the goats so they are now looking for new homes.

Tony (fawn) and Moose (white) are both friendly dogs! They are friendly with people and good with other dogs, also good with horses.

They are calm and laid back and are good with kids. Moose is probably better with youngsters.

These are both really nice dogs and we are trying hard to keep them from being killed.

We will help with transport within appx 1,000 miles if possible.
Can anyone help them??
They do not need to go to the same home, they are offered for foster or adoption individually.

Shine is housebroken and She loves to go on walks.
